PDIU’s purpose is to exchange knowledge with society, thereby accelerating the impact of research. The board responsible for the research program also holds the administrative responsibility of securing research funding at the international, national, and local levels.
Main Activities
- Scouting Research Funding Opportunities: Identifying funding opportunities at international and national levels, fostering international cooperation, and targeted dissemination of information to the academic community.
- Consultancy and Project Support: Assisting in the preparation and presentation of projects within international and national research programs, including obtaining international collaboration.
- Training Initiatives: Promoting and implementing training programs aimed at increasing the ability to attract and manage funds.
- Management of International Funding: Supporting activities related to international funding programs such as Horizon Europe 2021–2027, COST Program, LIFE Program, Health Program, and Progress Call.
- Audit Support: Providing services related to the audit phases of international research projects.
- International Cooperation Agreements: Supporting the stipulation and management of agreements for international collaboration.
- Research Funding Management: Handling activities related to the awarding of research grants and funding for collaborative projects.
- Research Evaluation Support: Offering organizational and informational support for research evaluation campaigns.
- Data Collection and Processing: Collecting, managing, and processing research data efficiently.
Collaborating on a Research Project
PDIU possesses unique breadth and depth in its research capabilities and actively seeks collaboration with businesses and other organizations for mutual benefit and societal impact. The institute encourages academics to participate in collaborations and provides support at all stages of engagement. Many collaborations are interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary, and all relationships are bespoke.
Dedicated business development professionals assist internally to facilitate relationships and conduct contractual negotiations pragmatically and efficiently.
Scientific Disciplines:
- Informatics, Mathematics, Physical & Life Sciences: Collaborate with companies worldwide, from multinational corporations to local start-ups. Projects range from 1-year sponsored MSc projects, 3–4-year PhD projects, to long-term postdoctoral research projects. Research is conducted under the supervision of leading faculty members with active involvement of sponsoring companies.
- Medical Sciences: Partners with scientists and industry to promote collaborative laboratory, clinical, and pre-clinical research. Areas of excellence include fundamental biology, drug discovery and development, medical devices, genomics and diagnostics, technology development, clinical studies, and public health projects. Partnerships can also facilitate engagement with the NHS.
- Humanities: Researchers regularly engage with external organizations, community groups, and businesses to apply their work practically.
- Social Sciences: Departments focus on understanding societal aspects such as political, legal, and economic systems, human rights, security, and social welfare. A knowledge exchange facilitator and support assistant provide guidance for knowledge exchange projects.
Forming a Strategic Alliance
PDIU welcomes opportunities to build strategic alliances with other educational institutions, companies, and laboratories. The business development team has extensive experience in alliance management and can work in partnership to develop optimal frameworks. Dedicated teams are available to build relationships and facilitate collaboration across each specialist area.
