Medical Care Where No One Else Can Reach

The Maritime Medical Care – Remote Area Training (MMCRAT) programme is delivered by Pro Deo International University through the Department of Medical Emergency Education. This specialised professional course is designed to prepare medical and emergency personnel to manage illness and injury in maritime, remote, and resource-limited environments where immediate evacuation or advanced medical support may not be available.

The course is intended for medical professionals, emergency medical specialists, and designated ship officers or crew members responsible for providing medical care at sea or in remote and hostile regions. It builds upon existing pre-hospital and emergency care experience, equipping participants with advanced skills in patient stabilisation, prolonged field care, clinical decision-making, and remote medical management.

MMCRAT focuses on the unique challenges of delivering medical care in isolated settings, including limited equipment, delayed evacuation, environmental hazards, and communicable disease risks. Participants develop the knowledge and practical competence required to provide a safe and acceptable standard of medical care while awaiting evacuation or specialist support, in accordance with international maritime and remote medicine standards.

Teaching is delivered through a combination of theoretical instruction, case-based learning, and practical scenario training, ensuring participants can operate effectively and confidently in complex operational environments.
