Competence in Trauma, Confidence in Practice.

The Trauma Advanced Life Support (TALS) course is offered by Pro Deo International University through the Faculty of Medicine, under the Department of Medical Emergency Education. The programme is designed to provide advanced training and professional revalidation for medical consultants, junior doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals involved in the acute management of trauma patients, including paediatric trauma resuscitation and critical decision-making.

TALS is an intensive, competency-based course that focuses on the early recognition, systematic assessment, and evidence-informed management of major trauma and trauma-associated syndromes. The programme introduces a structured and integrated approach to trauma care, enabling participants to effectively evaluate, resuscitate, stabilise, and prepare trauma patients for definitive care or safe transfer. Emphasis is placed on team-based management, prioritisation under pressure, and the application of advanced life support principles in high-acuity emergency settings.

Through a combination of focused lectures, scenario-based simulations, and hands-on practical training, participants develop the clinical skills and clinical judgement required to manage complex trauma presentations. On successful completion of the course, learners will be equipped to deliver timely, coordinated, and high-quality trauma care, thereby improving patient outcomes across pre-hospital, emergency department, and critical care environments.

Theoretical and Practical Evaluation

This course is designed in accordance with European and international standards for trauma education, incorporating a structured, competency-based approach to learning and assessment. The programme integrates evidence-informed theoretical instruction with supervised, hands-on practical skill stations and simulation-based training. High-fidelity, scenario-based exercises are employed to reflect the complexity of real-world trauma care and to support the development of clinical judgement, technical proficiency, situational awareness, and effective team communication.

Participant competence is assessed through objective structured clinical evaluations, direct observation of procedural skills, and scenario-based performance assessment, ensuring alignment with internationally recognised trauma training and accreditation frameworks. The course provides comprehensive instruction in the systematic assessment, resuscitation, stabilisation, and safe transfer of trauma patients, consistent with best practice guidelines for pre-hospital and emergency trauma care across European and international healthcare systems.

Target Audience

This course is intended for healthcare professionals involved in the early and ongoing management of trauma patients within pre-hospital, emergency department, and critical care environments. It is particularly appropriate for medical consultants, junior doctors, emergency medicine and anaesthesia specialists, nurses, paramedics, and allied healthcare professionals who require structured, accredited training in advanced trauma life support. The programme is also suitable for clinicians seeking internationally recognised trauma education, professional revalidation, or continuing professional development in line with European and global standards.
